92 mile walk for Rainbows Children’s Hospice

23 - 29th August 2021

Six members of the group Tony, Chris, Penny, Phil, Dave and Jane recently completed a 92mile sponsored walk, in aid of Rainbows Children’s Hospice. They walked the length of the Trent Mersey Canal starting at Northwich and finishing at Shardlow, walking 13 - 16 miles each day.

Thankfully the weather was favourable, it didn’t rain. However, there were a couple of casualties, with Jane retiring after 3 days and Phil not ducking quickly enough going under a low bridge and splitting his head open. He ended up at the Stoke Walk in Centre getting it glued back together. But like a true soldier and even after developing some nasty blisters on his feet, Phil and everyone completed all 92 miles

It was tiring and a bit of a slog towards the end but the team spirit, a lot of laughs and the thought of all the people who had sponsored them kept the team going.

Huge congratulations from the rest of Footloose on their achievement!

A little about our walks

Walks are organised by a member of the group and are various lengths and on different days of the week.

The monthly programme shows starting point, length of walk, contact details and level of difficulty (based on the number of stiles, hills and ground conditions).

As an example, our walks usually takes place as follows;

Sunday walks between 5 and 9 miles, followed by an optional pub lunch if possible

Saturday morning walks between 4 and 5 miles

Midweek walks during the Summer between 4 and 8 miles

Evening walks during the Summer between 4 and 5 miles

After most walks we try and go for refreshments in a nearby pub or cafe.
